The Lamp is Christ

The lamp is Christ

The lamp is Christ; the eye represents spiritual understanding and insight. Evil desires make the eye less sensitive and blot out the light of Christ's presence. If you have a hard time seeing God at work in the world and in your life, check your vision. Are any sinful desires blinding you to Christ?

““No one lights a lamp and puts it in a place where it will be hidden, or under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, so that those who come in may see the light. Your eye is the lamp of your body. When your eyes are healthy, your whole body also is full of light. But when they are unhealthy, your body also is full of darkness. See to it, then, that the light within you is not darkness. Therefore, if your whole body is full of light, and no part of it dark, it will be just as full of light as when a lamp shines its light on you.”” Luke‬ ‭11‬:‭33‬-‭36‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Reflections

I do agree sinful desires may blind our eyes to what God is doing in our eyes. However, I do see how other distractions may also blur our sight. It may not blind us, but it doesn’t allow us to focus on God.

I think we all know what sinful desires may be. There is no need for us to explicitly mention anything here. But knowing is one thing and putting it into application is another. Like if we know we cannot gamble but step into Singapore Pools to buy toto.. something we need to think and reflect. Some people may say but it’s nothing what? I only betted $2. Sure but usually the $2 will grow into something bigger, especially when we experience small wins, and eventually the flesh wins. So start small and prevent it when you can.

What about distractions? Harmless as it may seem but it takes us away from our quiet time with the Lord. It can be anything. Especially things when we do *aimlessly*. Like scrolling social media, online shopping. It’s a bit different when you have an aim in mind and go in and buy stuff and exit. Think of window shopping. It’s a way to kill time. You don’t need anything but just walking around. But if you are walking to exercise that’s a little bit different to me because you did that to keep healthy.

More importantly we need to reflect on how we spend our time. Was it fruitful? Of cos not forgetting sabbath and rest too to unwind and recharge. Choose our activities wisely.
