What does Jesus want from us?

Today's devotional: taken from YouVersion, Life Application Study Bible Devotion

What does Jesus want from us? Total dedication, not half-hearted commitment. We can't pick and choose among Jesus' ideas and follow him selectively; we have to accept the cross along with the crown, judgment as well as mercy. We must count the cost and be willing to abandon everything else that has given us security. With our focus on Jesus, we should allow nothing to distract us from the manner of living that he calls good and true.

“Jesus replied, “No one who puts a hand to the plow and looks back is fit for service in the kingdom of God.”‭‭Luke‬ ‭9‬:‭62‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Reflections

Jesus is a lifestyle, not a religion. God’s teachings challenge us to be different from others, being loving and caring to everyone.

He did not say that we can choose but we are to treat everyone the same.

When we are co-heirs of Christ, we enjoy and suffer together with Christ. We see the glory but we also experience the sufferings. It is not the path for the faint hearted. It is also not something that we should ignore, because we are placed in a position of children of God, whose actions and speech reflect how our God is like and whether the thinking that Christians are hypocrites are true.

I think amongst my own experiences, one thing that repeating is that of how God places in our hearts the things that we should change. He didn’t say we must change but it came across and feels something like it is highly recommended that we at least try to do something, out of love for Him.

He most likely would not expect us to give up our lives for Him if that is not within our capacity but at the very least, He cares if we truly love Him. It’s I guess similar to say when the husband has the knowing that His wife loves Him wholeheartedly and would not fall for another man.
