Coming into light
Many people don't want their lives exposed to God's light because they are afraid of what will be revealed. They don't want to be changed. Don't be surprised when these same people are threatened by your desire to obey God and do what is right, because they are afraid that the light in you may expose some of the darkness in their lives. Rather than giving in to discouragement, keep praying that they will come to see how much better it is to live in light than in darkness.
“This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but people loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that their deeds will be exposed. But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what they have done has been done in the sight of God.”John 3:19-21 NIV

Reflections
I guess at one point that was what I was afraid of as well. That whatever darkness in my life would be exposed to light. I was afraid of people would think of me and whether I would become an outcast or something.
Today, if you ask me if I was still afraid, I would be lying if I said no. But in God’s kingdom, it is He who is my Father and it is I who is called His daughter. It doesn’t matter so much any more because I don’t need the acknowledgment of men. Every one can despise me like how they despise the tax collectors in the past but it is not them who determine my identity. My identity is in Christ and this will never change.
Jesus had came and redeemed us all. We are washed clean and we now live a new life. We would have turned over a new leaf and live like a new person, a fresh sheet of paper. Unless I was living like how I lived in the past, then perhaps I am then truly not even worthy to be called a child of God.
Whoever I was in the past made me realised how much evil I did but He being merciful and gracious still forgives me. This great mercy and love is not something any God can give. All other religions preach about karma. About the world is round. It is not like we will not suffer consequences for our actions as Christians. We will still. But it is this greater love that conquers the hearts, that makes for peace so that the cycle does not continue anymore, so that the outpouring of love from each and every heart be apparent and that every spirit be filled with the Shalom Peace and the joy within each person be lit up as smiles that touches lives for all we meet.
