Don’t be too quick to judge

Don’t be too quick to judge
This is a significant statement about judging others. Because Jesus upheld the legal penalty for adultery, stoning, he could not be accused of being against the law. But by saying that only a sinless person could throw the first stone, he highlighted the importance of compassion and forgiveness. When others are caught in sin, are you quick to pass judgment? To do so is to act as though you have never sinned. It is God's role to judge, not ours. Our role is to show forgiveness and compassion.
“When they kept on questioning him, he straightened up and said to them, “Let any one of you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone at her.””John 8:7 NIV

Reflections
Like what was shared in the devotional. None of us is sinless or blameless to say. But it is too easy for us to judge someone without understanding the full story and for us to jump in and appearing righteous in the name of justice.
Like you read a newspaper article about someone who murdered someone and jumped into conclusion that the person shall be dealt with the death sentence. But what if you were told that the murderer actually suffered mental and physical abuse on a daily basis for the past 10 years and has a traumatic childhood where his parents abandoned him and left him to die in the toilet when he was just 3 years old? Are we as a society too quick to say who is right and who is wrong? I’m glad that we ain’t judges for the matter for that takes a whole different level of understanding on humanity.
We are taught to exercise forgiveness and compassion. It applies to anyone and everyone, including our family and even strangers. We are taught to see the world through the eyes of Jesus. Spreading His love to all the people we meet, exercising caution and also discernment and not judge anyone. Everyone is running their own unique race and only God fully sees all their pain and challenges. Let’s try a little compassion for all.
