Eternal life

How do we get eternal life? Jesus tells us clearly here-by knowing God the Father himself through his Son, Jesus Christ. Eternal life requires entering into a personal relationship with God in Jesus Christ. When we admit our sin and turn away from it, Christ's love lives in us by the Holy Spirit.


“Now this is eternal life: that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent.”

Reflections 

To know God is to know Jesus because the Father is in Him and He is in the Father and whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.


But the knowing is not about whether we know we is Jesus. This is asking us to enter into a relationship with Him. It is the same as saying you know who is our prime minister but you don’t have any relationship with him. 


When we are in a relationship, it is about two parties and the communication is two ways. There is no relationship if it is one-sided (more like idol worship, even in the physical sense, like how some fans are crazy over Korean celebrities but those, they have no relationship with them, it’s just plain worship). So we need to be wary to not be like people who have no relationship with Christ. We worship Jesus, God the Father and have the Holy Spirit as our guide. We hear from God because He is our shepherd. But first, we need to enter His sheep pen and be willing to be cared for or even disciplined by Him.


A good shepherd knows what he is doing and cares for his sheep with his life. He will take good care of them and provide everything that they need. Choose your shepherds wisely. “if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.”

How are you responding to Jesus’ hospitality as an honored guest?

He said to Philip, “Where shall we buy bread, that these may eat?” (John 6:5).

Year One Readings: 2 Kings 15 2 Kings 16 2 Kings 17 John 6:1-21 But this He said to test him, for He Himself knew what He would do (John 6:6).  He said to Philip, “Where shall we buy bread, that these may eat?” (John 6:5). Jesus doesn’t ask the above question to Philip because He needs an answer; our Lord knows all things. The Good Shepherd’s question has a twofold effect: It shows the inability of men to meet the needs of mankind and displays the impossibility of feeding the vast multitude. Philip should have turned to Jesus and said, “For with God nothing will be impossible” (Luke 1:37). This is the first miracle the disciples participate in with the Lord. Amazingly, Jesus provides “as much [bread and fish] as they wanted” (John 6:11). The verb “they wanted” occurs in the imperfect tense, showing continual action in past time.
