Our Daily Bread

People eat bread to satisfy physical hunger and to sustain physical life. We can satisfy spiritual hunger and sustain spiritual life only by a right relationship with Jesus Christ. No wonder he called himself the Bread of Life. But bread must be eaten to sustain life, and Christ must be invited into our daily walk to sustain spiritual life.

“Then Jesus declared, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.”

‭‭John‬ ‭6‬:‭35‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Reflections

Indeed our physical food is what filled our bodies, giving us the energy to do work, to go about our daily activities. With the right foods, it also nourishes us with good nutrients so that we are blessed with a healthy body. Remember that our bodies is the temple for the Holy Spirit. So then, all the more we should be mindful of the things we eat, so to keep healthy. Of course the Lord doesn’t mind the occasional chocolates, ice cream or wine for celebrations. However, if we are constantly feeding our bodies with junk food, then it is quite possible that our bodies may not have the necessary nutrients to remain healthy.

In the same way, as much as our physical body needs physical food, our spiritual body also requires spiritual food for sustenance. So then, the question becomes whether we have been regularly feeding ourselves spiritually or have we been starving ourselves. I do realised that as much our spirit is willing, there are times where our flesh is weak. So how can we try to bridge this gap?

It probably will have to come back down to our spiritual discipline. I cannot find any short cuts to achieve this spiritual discipline except to just persevere and remind myself that this is a must. There may be days where we feel super effective and there may be days where we just feel stuck. Whatever it is, it is important I feel to keep going back to Him and seek Him first. Only He is able to lead and guide us. If we don’t seek Him then there is an even higher tendency for us to seek others or something else or even ourselves. So a reminder to keep going back to the Father.
