The Humble Servant

The humble servant

John the Baptist said he was not even worthy to be Christ's slave, to perform the humble task of unfastening his shoes. But according to Luke 7:28, Jesus said that John was the greatest of all prophets. If such a great person felt inadequate even to be Christ's slave, how much more should we lay aside our pride to serve Christ! When we truly understand who Christ is, our pride and self-importance melt away.

“He is the one who comes after me, the straps of whose sandals I am not worthy to untie.””

‭‭John‬ ‭1‬:‭27‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Reflections

I think ultimately, God would appreciate that all human beings to be able to be called children of God. How many people are there in the world? So much more needs to be done. His kingdom work requires so much more.

I don’t think it is an issue of the heaven unable to contain everyone but that He has come to bring heaven down to us, already. We get a foretaste of what it is like to live in heaven. To work with our fellow brothers and sisters. All of us are part of the bigger body, reaching towards the same goal. All of us are servants to Him, however we are like a drop in the ocean. We are part of the Ocean, each drop is so insignificant but the numerous number of us get together form the vastness of a huge ocean, created by God. Similarly we are like sand, small and minute but gathers to form the earth.

He has a purpose in each of our lives and ultimately it is all for His greater fulfilment of His great plans. We are all part of it, called for His purpose. No, we can’t really argue though, we don’t have that right. But He knows us best. He won’t give us something we cannot handle. He is our best teacher, knowing when to best stretch us spiritually. Submit and listen to His call. Be faithful and persevere through. He has promised that He will always be by us, carrying us if needed. We should be courageous.
