The Lord’s Supper

The Lord’s Supper

Jesus asked the disciples to eat the broken bread "to remember me." He wanted them to remember his sacrifice, the basis for forgiveness of sins, and also his friendship that they could continue to enjoy through the work of the Holy Spirit. Although the exact meaning of Communion has been strongly debated throughout church history, Christians still take bread and wine in remembrance of their Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Do not neglect participating in the Lord's Supper. Let it remind you of what Christ did for you.

“And he took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them, saying, “This is my body given for you; do this in remembrance of me.””

‭‭Luke‬ ‭22‬:‭19‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Reflections

Jesus has been with them for quite some time and for this last supper, He broke bread and drink wine with them and told them to do this often as a remembrance of Him.

When we go to church and take Holy Communion, is it the same kind of reverence that we have for God? Knowing that He is there watching us? When we come before Him to receive the bread and wine, what are we thinking? Faster get this done and go makan? Why queue so slow? Why people cannot move faster? Why in front people pray so long? What’s going on in our heads?

After receiving the Holy Communion and we go back to our seats. Do we pray and thank God, for the giving of His body and His blood for us or do we sit down and talk about other stuffs while the others are still receiving communion? I said the above partly because I myself is guilty of it and at the same time, heard as well what people are talking about. A small portion of people only come for Holy Communion and did not attend the sermon and will leave after receiving it.

I think whatever it is, we also ought to remember why Jesus told the disciples to do all these in remembrance of Him. Why would He bother to specifically tell them all these? What are the significance of all these that we should be remembering? Are we getting so caught up with the rituals that we are getting so indifferent now? Just doing what the others are doing? So be wary and mindful of our thoughts and actions and hold it captive. Bring it back to the Lord.
