Guided by the Holy Spirit

Everyone wants to be wise. Yet Paul taught the Corinthians that true wisdom or discernment requires the believer to be guided by the Holy Spirit. Because Satan's greatest impact on us occurs when he deceives us, we need the Holy Spirit's help. Spiritual discernment enables us to draw conclusions based on God's perspective, make wise decisions in difficult circumstances, recognize the activities of God's Spirit, distinguish the correct and incorrect use of Scripture, and identify and expose false teachers. Ask God to give you his discernment as you serve him. Let that discernment guide you in your daily walk.

“This is what we speak, not in words taught us by human wisdom but in words taught by the Spirit, explaining spiritual realities with Spirit-taught words.”1 Corinthians‬ ‭2‬:‭13‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Reflections

Discernment is really important and more importantly is to rely on the Holy Spirt for discernment and not try to discern things ourselves by what we know. For what do we really know and never would we really know anything more than Him. The reliance on Him should be greater than anything else. The more the dwell on scriptures, the more we will be guided by Him. The closer and more intimately we spend time with Him, the better we can discern and be guided by the Holy Spirit because He points is to God’s perspective.

I think many a times we are guided by our own thoughts, the previous teachings that we learn and trying to apply things that was from the past. We had forgotten that learning is a continuous process. Yes we learn as we apply but also we have to learn on a daily His word and what it is trying to say. To dwell on daily teachings more deeply and not just read a verse. His word is full of wisdom and knowledge but I think we do not spend enough time to pause and reflect, as well as ask ourselves what we can learn from here and what He wants to teach us, followed by how can we apply this so we are more like Christ each day?

This is what we speak, not in words taught to us by human wisdom.. so be careful when we are trying to follow someone and their teachings. No man is perfect and all human are flawed. The only perfect being is the Lord and teachings should be from Him. Although humans may at times, be able to explain certain things about God in a certain way, we too need to seek the Holy Spirit in such learnings. Unless they are Spirit-led, unless they are filled with the knowledge of God, unless they have the gift of prophecy, one need to really discern such teachings or writings and not be overly obsessed about it.

In the gift of prophecy, I do not mean individuals who speak about what may happen in the future. I mean people who have the gift of speaking God’s truth. And also be careful when people demonstrates too many miracles. Because let’s not forget where one’s focus should be. If anyone who does anything brings the focus back to God and gives Him the glory, good. However, if people started following someone because of all the miracles that they do, be careful. Because their focus had fallen on men and not on God. Let’s not forget that magicians in Egypt will too able to perform miracles. Always pray to God and ask Him for wisdom and knowledge to understand His word and be guided by Him.
