In remembrance of Him
Jesus said, "Do this to remember me as often as you drink it.'' How do we remember Christ in the Lord's Supper? By thinking about what he did and why he did it. If the Lord's Supper becomes just a ritual or a pious habit, it no longer remembers Christ, and it loses its significance.
“In the same way, after supper he took the cup, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood; do this, whenever you drink it, in remembrance of me.””1 Corinthians 11:25 NIV

Reflections
I heard our pastor announced before the start of the Holy Communion to be in a posture of prayer after we return to our seats after the Holy Communion (HC). What this devotional is saying is very true. The HC has somewhat become a ritual and people are becoming legalistic? There are people who only came for the HC and left straight after. Is coming to church all about HC?
A couple of things run through my mind. What is the purpose of going to church? Is it a routine or just because it is Sunday that we must go church? Parents, what have you been telling your kids about going to church? I hope you explain it to your kids so they find it meaningful and told a purpose and not because it is Sunday. I am a first generation Christian and have no one to tell me go to Church but my friends and my leader telling me to, because church is our community, we are the body of Christ. It is meant to be for fellowship with one another, to hear the sermons, etc.
I met another sister who told me she is super uncomfortable in seeing people treating the church like a tourist spot, having no reverence for holy ground. I fully understand too where she is coming from. However, my church happened to also be a place of interest for tourists as we are the place that was used as a hospital for the wounded during WWII. Not forgetting too, that the church is a place for the sick. He came for the sinners as well.
When words were said when the minister break bread, etc., do we mouth them like how we memorise spelling? Each and every word that was said by us is our proclamation on what we believed. It is done in remembrance of what Jesus had done for all of us. He did it out of love, compassion, grace and mercy. What about us?
