The Holy Spirit Intercedes

As a believer, you are not left to your own resources to cope with problems. Even when you don't know the right words to pray, the Holy Spirit prays with and for you, and God answers. With God helping you pray, you don't need to be afraid to come before him. Ask the Holy Spirit to intercede for you "in harmony with God's own will." Then, when you bring your requests to God, trust that he will always do what is best.

“In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans. And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for God’s people in accordance with the will of God.”Romans‬ ‭8‬:‭26‬-‭27‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Reflections

I think there are often times when I really don’t know how to pray, when or where to start. Then again, I felt pushed or prompted to still pray, even when I have no idea what to speak. And somehow, when I just start praying, words do come to my mouth and it will just flow. Not sure if you have experienced this yourself but I did many times. It’s not like any single time to start is easy but every single time it is a push for me to just start praying. In a way, it is pushing also, to just rely on Him and not my own strength. I’m sure we all struggle on how to pray in the beginning.

I remember when I first started to pray, all I do is memorise the things to say, so I would not kind of say the wrong things. However, over time, I realised prayers are just like how we speak to our earthly father or anyone whom we share our life be. It is not bombastic words or words laden with scriptures. It is a form of communication between us and God. It is the level of comfort that every one of us experience whenever we pray to God. Whether we pray to Him as someone with seniority and rank and power or someone who is like our friend.

It doesn’t mean that we must use scriptures to pray though it is encouraged. It is not like if we don’t, God doesn’t hear us. He still does! The main concern is whether we pray to Him with our hearts. There’s no reason to pray to show others, or to let others see how powerful our repertoire of verses are. It is what is apt and what the Holy Spirit is prompting us to say. For someone who is well-versed in the word, it would be much easier for them to quote scriptures.

On the contrary, for someone who is rather new, they may be afraid to pray because their mindset has been they aren’t fluent in prayers and cannot memorise scriptures. However I tell you, the more powerful prayers I’ve heard are one that is sincere and comes right from one’s heart, that simple words itself is more than enough to just hit you in your heart too. But for that to work, we know who is the focus in their lives.
