Improper language

Improper language
Obscenity and coarse joking are so common that we begin to take them for granted. Paul cautions, however, that improper language should have no place in the Christian's conversation because it does not reflect God's gracious presence in us. How can we praise God and remind others of his goodness when we are speaking coarsely?
“Nor should there be obscenity, foolish talk or coarse joking, which are out of place, but rather thanksgiving.”Ephesians 5:4 NIV

Reflections
The above devotional reminds me of this verse. “With the tongue we praise our Lord and Father, and with it we curse human beings, who have been made in God’s likeness.”James 3:9 NIV
When we are made new in the Lord, this should not be and we ought to recognise improper language, obscenity or coarse joking comes from our inner most being and our hearts. If we follow Jesus, are we then committed to live a new kind of life? If we use to say profanities like they were punctuation marks in every sentence, do we not feel it is not right coming out of the mouth of a child of God? Would we talk that way in heaven too, especially in front of our Lord and Father? I think not. Unless you think that is fully acceptable. Hehe
The words we spoke that are improper may not only be profanities. It can also be anything that puts someone down. Perhaps as a guide, it will be words that will not come out of Jesus’s mouth. We do realised that none of us are perfect but that alone does not give us the liberty to sprout nonsense or words that may stumble a fellow believer.
_Father Lord, I pray that You will grant us wisdom, making us aware of the things that we say, that it will be words that edify one another, encourages one another and lifts up the spirit of one another. Help us to be slow to speak, so we hold every word and thought captive and speak only the words You have placed in our mouths. May we, who are Your children, live and bear witness to all the people around us, being the salt and light of the world. Thank You Lord. In Jesus’s name we pray. Amen_
