Inflated pride

Inflated pride

When we do something well, we want to tell others and be recognized. But recognition is dangerous-it can lead to inflated pride. How much better it is to seek the praise of God rather than the praise of people. Then, when we receive praise, we will be free to give God the credit. What should you change about the way you live in order to receive God's commendation?

“But, “Let the one who boasts boast in the Lord.” For it is not the one who commends himself who is approved, but the one whom the Lord commends.”

‭‭2 Corinthians‬ ‭10‬:‭17‬-‭18‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Reflections

Perhaps the main thing we need to learn is to stay quiet. Especially when it is pertaining to the things we had done, accomplished, an award that we got, a paper that we wrote, or in fact anything that lifts up our name, because that itself is dangerous as it shifts the world’s focus on us, not on our Lord.

When we want to tell others what good we had done, we end up doing nothing. Because all then that we do, was all for the sake of recognition from others. If we want to seek recognition from others, there’s no point because it has no end. It’s a bottomless pit to begin with. Draw attention away from ourselves and instead boast about the good that the Lord has done in our lives. It is Him that is worthy of all the thanks and praises. It is Him we ought to give glory to!

I’m not so sure how God gives His commendation but I know when I have done things that are pleasing to Him. He fills me with joy and peace.
