You reap what you sow
It would certainly be a surprise if you planted corn and pumpkins came up. It's a natural law to reap what we sow. It's true in other areas, too. If you gossip about your friends, you will lose their friendship. Every action has results. If you plant to please your own desires, you'll reap a crop of sorrow and evil. If you plant to please God, you'll reap joy and everlasting life. What kind of seeds are you sowing?
“Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows. Whoever sows to please their flesh, from the flesh will reap destruction; whoever sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life.”Galatians 6:7-8 NIV

Reflections
We can also find in the bible, verses that tells us not to do evil. In fact many other religions also said the same thing. However, I am reminded of this verse from the bible. It says “Do not repay evil with evil or insult with insult. On the contrary, repay evil with blessing, because to this you were called so that you may inherit a blessing.”1 Peter 3:9 NIV
As children of God, we are to love all people, including our enemies. We aren’t meant to seek what the world seeks but to seek His will. Not only should we not do evil, like engaging in gossip for example, we are to do good. Do good to our enemies, bless them even. This is the higher calling and something He wants us to do.
Speak goodness, encourage and let not any malice come from our hearts, our thoughts or our speech. We want to reap a harvest for the heavens. Not for what is for the earthly world, not for our own worldly pleasures but all for the glory of God.
Whatever we do now are all seen by Him and recorded by Him. I am also reminded that He knows our every thought, either spoken or unspoken and everything will be made known on the day of judgment… perhaps it is a reminder for us too to start sowing seeds to please God if we have yet to.
