Be worthy of God

By his words and example, Paul encouraged the Thessalonians to live in such a way that would be worthy of God. Is there anything about your daily life that would embarrass God? What do people think of God from watching you?


“encouraging, comforting and urging you to live lives worthy of God, who calls you into his kingdom and glory.”1 Thessalonians‬ ‭2‬:‭12‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Reflections

To be honest, asking what people think of God from watching us is really challenging. 


I watched some drama unfold before me in the MRT. A man walked in with a walking cane who is also wearing hearing aid. He purposely stood in front of a seat that says “please give up your seat to someone who needs it”. The lady there didn’t bother and just continued to sit there. That guy later turned to the back and told the young man sitting in a similar seat sarcastically, pointing to the sign that this seat is for people who need it. The young man retorted the guy and said you could have asked properly. He continued to say that you are not handicapped even. A mini scuffle ensued and the older guy told the young man to take back his seat then, which he did. The lady, on the other hand, promptly stood up and stand aside without saying anything.


I think to be fair, both the guys have some valid points. The younger one should give up his seat to someone who needs it more than him (maybe), the older guy could have asked properly for a seat instead of feeling kind of self-entitled. I think it’s difficult for man to judge another man based on their actions because who can understand the rationale behind without knowing them? For all we know, the lady and the young man may have been shift workers and had worked the midnight shift and really needed a seat to rest? Or have you also seen some elderly who are “super” able and can run even, giving people the eye when nobody gives them a seat? In my opinion, civic mindedness has also kind of fly out of the window since the school stopped teaching it.


I think whatever we think, say or do, just remember who is our God and Father and to whom do we belong.

How are you responding to Jesus’ hospitality as an honored guest?

He said to Philip, “Where shall we buy bread, that these may eat?” (John 6:5).

Year One Readings: 2 Kings 15 2 Kings 16 2 Kings 17 John 6:1-21 But this He said to test him, for He Himself knew what He would do (John 6:6).  He said to Philip, “Where shall we buy bread, that these may eat?” (John 6:5). Jesus doesn’t ask the above question to Philip because He needs an answer; our Lord knows all things. The Good Shepherd’s question has a twofold effect: It shows the inability of men to meet the needs of mankind and displays the impossibility of feeding the vast multitude. Philip should have turned to Jesus and said, “For with God nothing will be impossible” (Luke 1:37). This is the first miracle the disciples participate in with the Lord.
