Hold on to the truths

We shouldn't make fun of those who don't agree with what we believe ("scoff at prophecies''), but we should always "test everything,'' checking their words against the Bible. We are on dangerous ground if we scoff at a person who speaks the truth. Instead we should carefully check out what people say, accepting what is true and rejecting what is false.

“Do not treat prophecies with contempt but test them all; hold on to what is good,”

‭‭1 Thessalonians‬ ‭5‬:‭20‬-‭21‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Reflections

I think the more common thing is really treating prophecies with contempt because we think we know better or maybe the thought of how would someone as lowly as (name) have the gift of prophecy. Or a big question mark or unbelievable face that someone has this gift of prophecy. I think, it is an ego thing somewhat that this gift is given to someone who is a nobody.

Can you imagine Jesus, born to the poor family and lying in a manger when He was born. Would people who know Him believe He is the Messiah? Many a times we judge people but forgot that we are judging because it has somehow become a norm. Like someone who didn’t go school is not clever (for example).

At times, the truth is also hard to bear because it is not something that has formed in a preconceived notion in a person’s mind. What we think is not what He thinks and therefore we reject the truth. On the other hand, accepting the truths and recognising that we are never all-knowing is also a hard truth.

Jesus welcomes children into His midst because of their child-like faith. And it is also through the innocent eyes and mouths of child that we gather the most wisdom. They see things plainly and as directed by God, whereas we struggle to believe what was said or go against His commands.
