Looking at life from the right perspective

It seems strange that a man in prison would be telling a church to rejoice. But Paul's attitude teaches us an important lesson: our inner attitudes do not have to reflect our outward circumstances. Paul was full of joy because he knew that no matter what happened to him, Jesus Christ was with him. Several times in this letter, Paul urged the Philippians to be joyful, probably because they needed to hear this. It's easy to get discouraged about unpleasant circumstances or to take unimportant events too seriously. If you haven't been joyful lately, you may not be looking at life from the right perspective.

“Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice!”Philippians‬ ‭4‬:‭4‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Reflections

Indeed being in Christ gives us a different perspective to look at our lives. I used to complain a lot about things, situations, people, what you can think of. Basically no different from any random men or women in the streets.

It is quite typical of anyone to just complain but mainly in Singapore. Everyone complains about everything. The weather, the work, the bosses, etc.. Every Singaporean seemed to be full of complaints. Nothing seemed to satisfy. Is that the same for us too? Like did we too, got absorbed into the world, forgetting what contentment feels like? Shouldn’t we as Christians, also ought to give thanks for all the blessings we receive?

I felt we are getting self-entitled to everything that we have. Even the every breath that we take is a gift from God. He can give and He can take away. It is something essential to our living but yet have we gave thanks to Him? For His provision of our basic needs even, for food, water and shelter. Are we grateful we have a place to hide from the hot son? We are abled bodied and able to do everything independently, are we even thankful for that? I feel some handicapped people probably live their life with more gratitude than us.

My friends, there are a lot of things to be thankful for. So let us rejoice in the Lord always!
