New self

What does it mean to "put on your new nature"? It means that your conduct should match your faith. If you are a Christian, you should act like it. To be a Christian means more than just making good resolutions and having good intentions; it means taking the right actions. This is a straightforward step that is as simple as putting on your clothes.


“and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator.”

‭‭Colossians‬ ‭3‬:‭10‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Reflections

I don’t fully agree with the devotional saying that if we are a Christian, we should act like one. I think as a Christian and a true Christian in that sense, our thoughts, speech and actions would be like one, not due to our own strength but by the transformational power that comes from the Lord.


If you compare yourself now from perhaps 10-20 years ago, you would have found that you have grown. Not just older as a Christian but also more mature as one and also having a more intimate relationship with Christ. Ultimately that is all we are aiming for isn’t it.


I believe if we are truly made new, the Holy Spirit in us will guide and convict us of the things we need to stop doing or start to do. He will lead us to understanding what rest is about, what peace is about, how true love feels, what joy in the spirit is like, etc. He will help us to live out a Christian life that is truly glorifying to the Lord, in thought, word and speech.

How are you responding to Jesus’ hospitality as an honored guest?

If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me (Revelation 3:20). How are you responding to Jesus’ hospitality as an honored guest? Traditionally the two most honored guests at the feast would recline on the right and left hand of the host. He said to Philip, “Where shall we buy bread, that these may eat?” (John 6:5).

Year One Readings: 2 Kings 15 2 Kings 16 2 Kings 17 John 6:1-21 But this He said to test him, for He Himself knew what He would do (John 6:6).  He said to Philip, “Where shall we buy bread, that these may eat?” (John 6:5). Jesus doesn’t ask the above question to Philip because He needs an answer; our Lord knows all things. The Good Shepherd’s question has a twofold effect: It shows the inability of men to meet the needs of mankind and displays the impossibility of feeding the vast multitude. Philip should have turned to Jesus and said, “For with God nothing will be impossible” (Luke 1:37). This is the first miracle the disciples participate in with the Lord. Amazingly, Jesus provides “as much [bread and fish] as they wanted” (John 6:11). The verb “they wanted” occurs in the imperfect tense, showing continual action in past time.
