Suffering with Christ

Suffering with Christ

We may suffer for many reasons. Some suffering is the direct result of our own sin, some happens because of our foolishness, and some is the result of living in a fallen world. Peter is writing about suffering that comes as a result of doing good. Christ never sinned, and yet he suffered so that we could be set free. When we follow Christ's example and live for others, we too may suffer. Our goal should be to face suffering as he did-with patience, calmness, and confidence that God is in control of the future.

“To this you were called, because Christ suffered for you, leaving you an example, that you should follow in his steps. “He committed no sin, and no deceit was found in his mouth.””

1 Peter‬ ‭2‬:‭21‬-‭22‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Reflections

As I was doing my reflection during the CG retreat for the year end, I was reminded of what He spoke to me at the beginning of this year. This is going to be a year of order. Not sure what order He is talking about. Like is it going to be a messy year? I’m not sure.

So while I was praying while on the silent retreat and asking Him to reveal, I got the answer. This order is about prioritising Him, putting Him first and learning how to do that.

Indeed this year, there are a lot more surrenders. Starting from when I was called to quit one place, resign at a certain date with no solutions given, learning to trust He has it all planned out, took a pay cut and change workplace. Uncertain about the future or what about my nursing licence. Not sure how to do training, not so sure if I can lead a team overseas for 6 days and not sure how to lead a group of people who are more mature Christians than I am. Like how on earth am I going to do that. Each step of the way, He taught me to just continue to trust. Put Him first, even if I’m not sure, just do it even when I had no prior experience. It is through all these that He shown me how He can carry me through if I just trust Him. It is when I am weak, then I am strong. Not by my own strength but through God’s grace, for His power is made perfect in weakness.

All these experiences help me understand the whole order. He is first so put Him first. The rest will follow. This is regardless of what we may experience but the perseverance of still choosing to trust Him, relying on Him, letting Him be the center of everything, even though we have to go through sufferings.

Jesus came to take the sin away from us but it doesn’t mean that we no longer will have to suffer. It just means that Christ knows our sufferings and what we felt and been through, for He Himself had gone through human sufferings and He endured the cross. He walks with us in every step. So take heart, we are already blessed.
