What matters to God
If wealth, power, and status mean nothing to God, why do we attribute so much importance to them and so much honor to those who possess them? Do your material possessions give you goals and your only reason for living? If they were gone, what would be left? What you have in your heart, not your bank account, matters to God and endures for eternity.
“But the rich should take pride in their humiliation—since they will pass away like a wild flower. For the sun rises with scorching heat and withers the plant; its blossom falls and its beauty is destroyed. In the same way, the rich will fade away even while they go about their business.”
James 1:10-11 NIV

Reflections
When I was writing this reflection. The words “fools rushed in” popped up in my head. It meant Ignorant or inexperienced individuals get involved in situations that wiser persons would avoid. If I could put it into perspective, the fools would be anyone who placed wealth, power, status above anything else. A wrong priority in life, focusing on things that are temporal and things that one can never bring with them to heaven.
Was having lunch one day with one of the pastors and he made this comment. Do not focus on the temporal things when we are called to focus on things that are eternal. I cannot remember the exact words he said but that was the gist of things.
I think it is easy for us to identify idolatry as something temporal. The quantifiable things, the things that we can see and grab, are all seeing to say we know, understanding and can apply. But what about the things that we cannot really quantify and can only qualify? What about our mental or emotional aspects of the world?
Do not give the devil a foothold. Do not worry about anything. Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry. All these various verses talks about either our mental or emotional status. If we allow worries, anger, resentment, jealousy, consumes us, we are focusing on the wrong things. Sure we will feel all these but the important thing is to let God be our priority, let Him take the center stage and take charge. Not letting the enemy have a chance to get to our innermost being. Can you imagine heaven having all these? What chaos would there be?
Focus on the eternal and what your heart carries. Our Father looks at all these.
